Eastin, Rawlings and Duffy

A very early photo of Louisiana or "Lucy" (Eastin) Rawlings,
taken about 1850-1855. Louisiana, the tenth child and fourth daughter of
Philip Eastin and Sarah Anna Hite Smith Eastin, died on 23 May 1857 in Dupont
at age 53, of "pulmonary disease" -- i.e. tuberculosis. We believe she may
be buried at Ryker's Ridge Cemetery, near her parents. One of Louisiana's
sisters, Mahala Eastin, married Elisha Gale English and was the mother of
William Hayden English, for whom see more below. Louisiana was the second
wife of Eleazer Rawlings, whom she married at Lexington, Scott County, IN in
1820. They had four children:

abt 1837. Moses, who evidentally never married, served in the Civil War with
the 8th Indiana Volunteers, per his gravestone. He "died in the war",

DAR Washington DC) say "M.M. Rawlings, pvt in 6th [not 8th] Ind.,age 25, dies
at Dupont on May 2nd. (Date is probably incorrect, since newspaper quoted is
dated 10 Apr 1862.) He is buried in the Methodist Graveyard "on the Graham
Farm", near his half-sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Duffy) Rawlings, wife of
Harvey L. Rawlings. She is buried in the same place (on the Graham farm) in
