Benefiel Family Bible

George Benefiel (1759-1832) was a Revolutionary War soldier who came from Pennsylvania, through Bourbon and Clark Co., Ky., to Jefferson Co. in 1814. His family lived in Shelby Township, Jefferson Co., not far from Jefferson Presbyterian Church

This transcription was contained in a set of Benefiel records that passed through several hands, including the late Carey Ryker MacDonnell (1892-1966) of Marshfield, Mo. The notes say the Bible record is from Miss Stella Alta Ryker and her sister Mrs. Myrtle Edith Ryker (Wm. Jasper) McDaniel of 1513 E. Walnut St. Springfield, Mo. The note also say a copy of the Bible record came from Macdonnell. I assume the Rykers were MacDonnell’s cousins.

The name Buchanan is in parenthesis next to George Benefiel’s wife Mary, leading me to believe the name is not given in the original record. I have omitted all the death records that were placed on this transcription because it says “Death records (as well as copy of Bible record) are from the records of Carey Ryker MacDonnell.,.” which I read as indicating that only the birth records are from the Bible.    –Robert W.
