Richard Vernon Bible

Richard Vernon (1789-1877) was born in Stokes Co., N.C. He came to Jefferson County in 1828 and lived on the East Fork of the Indian-Kentuck Creek, north of Manville.

The Bible was last known to be in the possession of the late Edna Cooney Luther of Madison, who inherited it from her mother, Anna Vernon Cooney, (1879-1975) daughter of Pleasant Vernon, Richard’s son. The transcriptions indicate that there is information on the Todd family that was not copied. (Richard’s daughter Elizabeth Jane married Thomas Todd) In 1959, the Bible was owed by Victor Vernon (1868-1959), who made this particular transcription. Victor was a brother to Mrs. Cooney.
