Jefferson County: Fugit Cemetery, Milton Twp

Fugit Graveyard

Sec. 15 Twp. 4N Range 11
Milton Township, Jefferson County

When the John Paul Chapter DAR transcribed this cemetery, only one stone was left. The DAR described it as "between two bridges at Manville." More precisely, it on the property that for years has been the Manville store property near the meeting of the West Fork and East Fork of the Indian-Kentuck Creek. The building on the property was originally erected as a private residence with a second floor added by the Order of Red Men. The inscription and notes following are by the DAR. The DAR is wrong in stating that the Fugits came in 1813. The family was in Indiana at least in 1811 when Jesse received a militia appointment, and probably by 1809, according to other sources. By Robert Scott.
