McKay Graveyard

Milton Township
Section 17 Twp. 3N Range 11E

by Robert W. Scott

The John Paul DAR transcription describes this as “on Rogers farm above Brooksburg.” This land was owned by Donald King (and then by his widow) in the 1990s. It is north of Route 56 in Jefferson Co., just west of Lamb. The DAR transcription gives this Section 7, but it is more likely Section 17, which was patented in 1808, by Robert McKay. Jefferson County road maps show a cemetery in Section 7, but it is on the south Side of State Road 56, while Section 17 shows a cemetery on the North South, which matches the location as visited by Robert Scott in 1997. The 1900 Jefferson County property map shows that F.E. Rogers owned a 64-acre tract, mostly in Section 17. The transcriptions and all notes are by the DAR
A stone wedged between two trees has the initials “R.M.”, probably the grave of Robert McKay, Revolutionary War solider.

According to Mr. Henz McKay of Trimble Co., Ky., his father, Oliver McKay, is buried in this place. His mother, Mary Ann Moreland McKay, is buried in Moffatts Cemetery, Milton, Ky.
