Monroe Cemeteries

Section. 35 Twp. 4N Range 11E.
Milton Township, Jefferson County, Indiana.

By Robert W. Scott

The John Paul DAR transcriptions give two sections of graves as follows. The first is simply listed as Monroe Farm. The second, as noted, shows "Monroe Farm, near Brooksburg Road." The first is listed as being in Twp. 4N; the second in Twp 5N, although both are given as being in Section 35, Range 11E. The correct range is 4N. The Jefferson County road map does not show any cemeteries in this section, which is just west of Brooksburg (and downstream from it.) The section is fractional (but almost complete) and borders the Ohio River on the South. It is crossed almost diagonally by Shirks Hollow Road. A 1900 property map shows E. Monroe owning 33 acres in the SE1/4 Section 35, bordering the river on the south and Section 26 on West. On the West and east of E. Monroe's property, Jno. Monroe owned 111 acres in the SE1/4 and part of the NE1/4. Transcribed from DAR transcription by Robert Scott.
