Jefferson County: Vernon Cemetery, Milton Twp

Vernon Graveyard

Milton Township
Section 20 Twp. 4N Range 12E

By Robert Scott

This cemetery is located on Vernon Ridge. Section 20 adjoins the Switzerland Co. line. Nehemiah Vernon, and his father, James Vernon, died who by 1829, both owned the N1/2 of Section 20. The DAR transcription does not give the 1/4 Section and the cemetery is not shown on the Jefferson Co. road map. The Myer Vernon in the note below is Nehemiah Vernon. The DAR report that Myer came in 1812 is wrong. Nehemiah and his father were still in Stokes Co. in 1817 and cannot be placed in Jefferson Co. before 1818.
