Bethel Church (Presbyterian). George Shannon and Thomas Shannon deeded a lot to the trustees of this church on June 14, 1837. (Jefferson County Deed Book N p. 420) The members are described as Associate Reformed Presbyterian. The land was in Section 24 Twp. 3N Range 9E. Trustees named in the deed are James Patterson, William A. Wallace, and John Swan. The deed says the land conveys a lot of ground “including the meeting house and graveyard.” Among those mentioned, George and Thomas Shannon, and James Patterson are buried in the cemetery.

  3)	Stone with no markings, live Yucca plants surrounding it - left of Jane W. Smith stone

  4)	Small stone “Mother”, no other etching - located to the left of Artie Bell Davis stone

  5)	Small stone, no etching - approximately 40 feet to the left of Stafford stone -
 	by itself at the end of a row

  6)	Two field stones, no other markings located by “Mother Daugherty” stone


  7)	“Mother Daugherty” stone - no other etching - 
         located by Nancy & Matthew Humes stone






  8)	Fieldstone between Barbara E. Humes and Angeline Guinn stones

  9)	There are 7 stones in a row with only the bases present -
 	located between Horace William Humes and Ida B. Humes

  10)	The 6th row from the left of the cemetery consists of the following stones:
  		Stone  - base only
 		Stone - base only
 		G.E.W. with no other etching on stone
 		Field stone
 		Field stone
 		White stone stuck in ground - no etchings appear to have ever been present

  11)	“James W.” - last name unreadable; Sept 20 1866 - can not determine if this is
 	birth or death date; all other etching is gone.  Stone is located between
 	Caroline Frances West and David B. Woodard stones.

  12)	Small stone with G.W.R. - no other etching, located beside Christina A. Tolbert

  13)	Stone base only - located by Matthew & Mary Reed stone

  14)	Stone stuck in ground (formed stone - not fieldstone) - no etching visible,
 	located by George M. Carson

  15)	Stone base only - located between Carson stone and Wakefield stone

  16)	The following stones appear as head or foot stones of the large Carson stone
 	with all their names etched:

 		Mary A.	no other etching
 		Maggie I. Carson
 		James Carson
 		John R. Carson

  17)	Relatively new grave - still a slight mound indicating ground has not
 	completely settled - no marker from funeral home or stone erected as yet.

  18)	Stone gone - base remains - located next to Annie Moore stone.

  19)	Stone with “John W.” and no other etching - located next to John Worth Shannon stone

  20)	James A. - no other etching - located next to Jane Spear stone

  21)	M.J.S. - no other etching - located by John S. Taylor stone

  22)	Stone base only - located between Mattie M. Bruther and Rev. George McMillan stones

  23)	Stone missing from concrete base - located with Rev. George McMillan,
 	Mary McMillan and John McMillan

  24)	After the McMillan concrete base there are 3 more stone bases with no stones.
 	On the middle base is etched “Mother”

  25)	Concrete stone with top broken off - no etching visible - between Martha Bonner
 	and William H. Gordon stones.

  26)	Small stone - etching looks like “MAMA” and stone is chipped so there
 	may have been etching before the Mama - appears to have been broken
 	off from base at the right of the Maria M. & Albert Gordon stone.

  27)	Fieldstone - located between David Reed (et al) stone and Charles H. Reed stone

  28)	In the row before several of the Reed stones, there are 5 stones in a row
 	with the following etchings:

  		MJR	JCR	SR	BSR	MAR

  29)	Stone broken, only top piece present - “Martha” “Charlotte” “Children of” -
 	located by Henry P. Lee stone - 1941 DAR List identifies last name as Rankin
 	and children of Wm. T. & Eliza C. Rankin (no dates noted on 1941 list)

  30)	Stone with 3 names listed but no other etching - “Willie” “George” “Kittie” -
 	located not far from Henry P. Lee stone

  31)	Fieldstone - located at the end of row containing Henry P. Lee stone

  32)	Stone base only - located beginning of row containing Bertie Reed stone

  33)	Tall column, stone broken & laying on ground, too heavy to move but
 	only etching visible is “MARTHA” - located by Bertie Reed stone

  34)	Broken stone with no etching visible - located by Benj. S. Miller stone

  35)	Stone with “G ????” - all other etching weathered away -
 	located by William P. Sutherland stone

  36)	Two fieldstones in same row as Franz Anton Mock stone -
 	quite some distance away from his stone

  37)	There is a large column stone to the left of Matthew M. Reed stone,
 	completely overgrown with vines and brambles.  I had actually missed
 	the stone on my first visit due to the dense overgrowth.

  38)	There are two large groupings of day lilies growing in the row with
 	Franz Anton Mock stone - no stones visible but it appears the
	flowers have been planted in memory of loved ones.
