1941 D.A.R. Notes:
A stone wall surrounds some graves on the O'Neal farm,
just south of Dupont. No stones. According to the O'Neals,
a Mr. Hoyt is buried there. He invented something which had
to do with engines.
Madison Courier, March 17 1851:
"A Mr. Williams Hoyt of Indiana says he has invented a plan
by which music of softest and most pathetic character may be
produced on steamboats by agency of steam. It appears that the
steam is made to operate upon a number of pipes, placed across
the boilers of the boat, furnished with certain whistles governed
by a set of keys by which steam is let on, or shut off at will.
"Our Dupont neighbor is destined to make noise in this world."
Madison Courier, June 14 1848:
"William Hoyt's invention of plan for taking cars up the plane."
