Paris Methodist. On 10 Apr. 1856, Dennis Willey and Lydia sold a half acre north of Neals Creek and a half acre south of it to Methodist Trustees for a burying ground. This was previously the Willey family burying ground, according to the deed. (Book 13 p. 228). The trustees were Isaac Rowland, Ezekiel Lewis, Lemuel Wells, Samuel Wells, Harvey S. Rawlings, John Simpson, Shilliday (?), and James Harmon. The land was in the NE1/4 Sec. 4 Twp. 4N Range 8E and the W1/2 NW1/4 of Sec. 3. The Jefferson County DAR transcribed the Mt. Olive cemetery, with three stones, in Section 1 Twp. 4N Range 8 E. The 1941 notes comment that there used to be a church on the site. One of three marked tombstones is that of Nancy L. Wells, wife of Samuel E. Wells, who died Aug. 17, 1852.

No one buried here for 65 years. Years before there was a church here.
Over a hundred field stones.
This is on the Innes farm, south of Whithams.

Note by Ruth Hoggatt: All three burials are in July & August of 1852, with two being on the same day. According to the 1876 plat map, Samuel Wells owned the SW1/4 of Section 1 and the E1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 2, totaling 240 acres of land. The NE1/4 of Section 4 belongs to Jennings County.
