This small family cemetery is also known as the Fox Farm Cemetery, as the D.A.R. recorded the Rodgers burials in the 1930s, when the land was owned by the Fox Family. However, a more accurate name would be the Rodgers Cemetery. (The name Rodgers may also be found as Rogers in various records.)
Robert Rogers, an early pioneer to Jefferson County, came from Pennsylvania, and on Dec. 13, 1819 obtained a patent for 160 acres, in the northeast quarter of section 1. At this time, the land was in Lancaster Township, but later became a part of Smyrna Township. According to Mark Danielson, a descendant of Robert, Robert died ca. 1844. Charles M. Rodgers, son of Robert, inherited 40 acres of this land, and was buried on his farm in 1852. Also, buried here is Charles' wife and two of their chidren. According to Mark Danielson, Monroe T. Rodgers joined Co. M, 3rd Indiana Cavalry. on Dec. 11, 1861.
With appreciation, I wish to acknowledge Mark Danielson, for his assistance in researching this family. Mark is a descendant of Robert and Charles Rodgers, through Charles' son Cleveland Rogers.
The Rodgers tombstone is located 7 miles northwest of Madison, on the east side of State Road 7, near the intersection of 450 West and S.R. 7.
