Elder Thomas P. George

Transcription by Robert W. Scott

It becomes our painful duty to record the death of our dear brother, Elder Thomas P. George. He was born in the State of Kentucky, October 5th, 1894 (sic, must mean 1794.) In early life he came with his father to this State, and while in his fifteenth year, became the subject of saving grace, and united with the Baptist church, called Harbert’s Creek, and remained a faithful, active and useful member until God took him to the church triumphant, finding in him traits of character and talent for usefulness. The church in 1854, gave him license to preach, and in 1861, he was fully set apart to the work of the ministry. From this time until his late illness, he preached to the neighboring churches almost incessantly, most of the time having four churches under pastoral care; and four fifteen consecutive years, served faithfully as Clerk of the Madison Association . In the latter part of August 1869, he was stricken with palsy, but recruited [sic, recovered?] enough to attend our Association and that of Sand Creek. In the month of September, and continued going about, through very feeble, until the 14th of November, when he received a second stroke and became unconscious. He lingered until the next day, when he departed this life and entered the better life above.
