The Madison Courier - 12 June 1913 Catherine Barriger Obit. DEATH OF A YOUNG MOTHER Leaving a Large Family of Children. Mrs. Catherine Barriger, widow of the late Mr. Francis M. Barriger, died at quarter to 11 o'clock last night at her home on west Presbyterian avenue, below Cemetery street. She came from Kentucky to this city, and had lived here three years. Her husband, who died a few years ago, was a private in Co. H, 29th Indiana Infantry regiment, and was several years her senior, she being only thirty-five years of age. She was the mother of eight children, one of whom is dead. There are seven living children, ranging from sixteen years to seven months, who will draw a soldier's orphans' pension of $24 a month. The children are Frank McKinley, Howard Gardiner, Lily Dell, Verna May, James L. R., Clara Francis, and Elizabeth Aleen Barriger. The funeral will take place tomorrow, Mr. Francis Eads preaching the sermon. The interment will be in Springdale cemetery. [Wanda Shultz's Note: My grandmother's (Clara Francis) name was listed as Charles Francis. Charles is Catherine's father, Charles Gaylord.]
