One of the largest crowds that has ever been in attendance was present at the annual old settler's meeting in Griswold's Grove near Bennington Saturday is estimated 2,500 people were present."

OBITUARY Funeral services for Frank R. Griswold, 91, who died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday at the home of his son, Irving Griswold, route 1, La Porte, were held this afternoon and at the grave in Springville cemetery, the Rev. W. Vander Linden officiating. He was born in Vevay, Ind., on October 21, 1853, the son of Leonard and Sarah Helen Griswold. Others surviving are: 5 grandchildren. His wife, one son, one daughter, and one grandson preceded him in death, the latter in a Japanese prison camp. O. M. Haverstock was in charge of funeral arrangements." 29 January 1928 MAN DROPS DEAD IN HIS BARNYARD GEORGE GRISWOLD, PLEASANT TOWNSHIP FARMER, DIES FROM HEART ATTACK WAS FOUND BY HIS DAUGHTER Who Went To Look For Him When He Fails To Return To The House After Feeding His Stock "George Griswold died suddenly at his home north of Bennington at eight o'clock Sunday morning following an attack of heart trouble. Mr. Griswold had left the house to feed his stock and when he did not return his daughter, Miss Gertha, went to look for him and found him lying in the barnyard, dead. Mr. Griswold was past seventy-one years of age, being born September 24, 1856. When a young man he was united in marriage to Mary Sarver and one son and one daughter blessed their union. Mrs. Griswold died over two years ago, while the son, Charles was killed in France during the world war. The daughter, Miss Gertha survives. Rev. Clair Malcomson conducted the funeral services at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the M.E. Church at Bennington and the remains were laid to rest in the Slawson Cemetery with Mrs. J. M. Clements the undertaker in charge." 30 July 1965 Icey Sigmon "The beauty of Heaven and the joy of salvation were realized by the family of Icey Sigmon at 11:55 on Tuesday evening, as they stood by her bedside and witnessed her passing. A smile crept over her tired old face and all pain and suffering were gone. On July 1 she fell and fractured her hip. She was taken to the Kings Daughters Hospital at Madison. After spending eight days there, the doctors found that they could not pin her hip, so she was brought to her home on July 9 where she was tenderly cared for by her four children who did not spare any of their time and energy for her comfort. Icey Viona, daughter of the late Leonard R. and Mary Blodgett Griswold, was born near Bennington, Indiana on March 9, 1871. She departed from this life on July 30th, 1965 at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 12 days. She was the fifth child of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She also had a half-brother and a half-sister who were older and passed away years ago. On January 13, 1895, she was married to Ulie G. Sigmon, and for sixty-four years this union was not broken. On February 24, 1959, Mr. Sigmon passed away and the past six years she has gone her way alone. All her life was spent in Switzerland County. She and Mr. Sigmon lived on their farm on Parks Ridge as long as health would permit. They moved to their home in Vevay where she has resided for twenty-one years. After Mr. Sigmon death, her daughter, Mrs. Mary Brandon, made her home with her until last year after an operation. Since then, her eldest daughter Mrs. Lelia Peters stayed with her. She was a member of the Long Run Baptist Church. After she moved to Vevay, she attended the Switzerland Baptist Church. She was a member of Class 43 at the Baptist Sunday School. She also attended the Nazarene Church. All her life was centered around her church and her Christian faith. She read to her children. One died in infancy. The eldest son Herbert, passed away 25 years ago at the Veteran Hospital in Indianapolis. Four children are left to mourn her passing: Mrs. Mary Brandon of Indianapolis, Mrs. Hazel Boggs of Vevay, Mrs. Lelia Peters, and Paul Sigmon of this county. A granddaughter, Mrs. Pauline Scudder, made her home with her for a time and was like her only child. She leaves 13 other grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Her life was a solid foundation of faith and can be summed up in the words of this song:

OBITUARY OBITUARY - PALMER "Maranda Palmer was born in Ohio, April 24, 1839; died at Severy, Kansas, March 20, 1928, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 27 days. The great part of her life was spent in (Switzerland County) Indiana. At the age of 40 she was united in marriage with O.H. Palmer, with whom she came to Severy, where she has since made her home. In early life she became a member of the Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away 29 years ago, since which time she has made her home with her stepchildren. She is survived by one sister living in Chicago, Ill, and her stepchildren: P.H. Palmer of Kendall; Ross and Ollie of Severy; Mrs. Dema Nix of Sayre, Okla; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Ross Palmer home yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Oliver Cook of the Congregational Church. Interment was in Rural Vale cemetery."

SARAH MILES IS CLAIMED BY DEATH AT HER RURAL HOME "Mrs. Sarah Miles, an aged and respected lady of near Aaron, passed away at her home there last Wednesday evening, following a short illness. She had been bedfast only three days. The deceased was a daughter of Leonard and Mary Griswold and was born December 7, 1850. She was first married to Benjamin Lewis who passed away several years ago. Four years after his death she was united in marriage to Melbourne Miles who died in 1916. Mrs. Miles was a fine old lady in every respect. For many years she had lived alone on Bennington, Route 2, and was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by four children, Mrs. Andrew Peters of near Aaron and Albert Miles of near Aaron, Roy Miles of Indianapolis, Mrs. Grover Farwood of Springfield, IL; a brother, Frank Griswold of Chicago; three half-brothers, Hully, Elwood, and Lawrence Griswold of this county; two half-sisters, Mrs. Uly Sigmon of Park Ridge and Mrs. Enolia Copeland of North Madison. The funeral services, held on Friday at Pleasant Grove Church, was conducted by Rev. Hughes. Burial was in the Zion cemetery."
OBITUARY "Mrs. Mary Griswold died on Thursday night after an illness of several months of dropsy, ending in a severe attack of pneumonia. She was the wife of Lemuel (Leonard) Griswold of Pleasant Township and was a Blodgett before her marriage to Mr. Griswold. Besides the aged husband, she leaves two daughters and five sons. The daughters are Mrs. Ulie Sigmon, of Park's Ridge, and Mrs. John Copeland, of Jefferson County near North Madison. The five sons are George, Hulley, Lawrence, Elwood and Angelo, the later at home with his father. She was 81 years of age. The burial and funeral services will take place on Saturday, interment at Bennington."

He had suffered with heart trouble for some time past as death was due to his illness. Surviving is his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Wiesickle and Mrs. Nell Archer of Vevay, and two sons, Robert of Brooksburg and Mart of Hamilton, Ohio. As we go to press no further details of his life are available."
OBITUARY LAST RITES ARE HELD FOR HULLEY GRISWOLD Rites Held At Bennington, Burial At Vevay "Funeral services for the late Hulley Griswold of this county were held at the Bennington M.E. Church late Friday afternoon with Rev. Sal Wiseman officiating. Mr. Griswold whose death occurred last Wednesday at the home of his daughter in Rising Sun, was a lifelong resident of this county. He was the son of Lemuel (Leonard) and Mary Blodget Griswold and was born near Bennington, January 31st, 1865. On August 27th, 1896 he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Turner who with the four children survive. He also leaves two brothers, Elwood and Lawrence Griswold of this county and two sisters, Mrs. Uly Sigmon of Parks Ridge and Mrs. John Copeland of North Madison. For many years the deceased followed the trade of blacksmith and was known and respected by a host of friends throughout the county. Following the services interment was made in the Vevay cemetery with Haskell & Morrison in charge."
2 September 1898 "DIED...Of typho-malaria fever, at his home in Elk County (KS) Saturday night @ 12 o'clock. O.H. Palmer, age 57 years 10 months and 3 days. Mr. Palmer was born in Switzerland County, Indiana, in 1841. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the army and served his country for three years, being wounded at the battle of Chickamaugua. In the year 1865 he was united in marriage to Fannie C. Mix. Six years later he emigrated west, settling on the place where he lived until his death. In 1879 his wife died leaving him with six small children. In 1880 he married Maranda Griswould of Indiana. His last illness lasted seven weeks and four days, during which time he suffered all that man can suffer, and notwithstanding that all was done that loving care and skillful physicians could devise he was called away from this world of sorrow and trouble. He leaves a wife, mother, five children and a host of friends to mourn him. He was a kind husband, loving father, good neighbor and a true friend."
