Hoosier Genealogy and History


Brad Hoggatt Our names are Brad & Ruth Hoggatt. Since 1995 we have hosted web pages related to history and genealogy for counties in the State of Indiana, primarily Grant, Jefferson, and Switzerland. Ruth started the Southeastern Indiana Genealogy Web site when the Internet first came to southeastern Indiana. We hope this site has been helpful to you through the years.

We want to thank all the people who have been sending very kind, and encouraging emails. They have meant a great deal to us. We would also like to thank Bob Scott for his contributions to MIH. And, hope that you will join in with the same giving spirit, and share your family stories and history. When you publish on MIH (via blog, page, comment or the forum) you have full access to edit or delete what you have written.

Frank W. Phillips Family & Hugh Smith Family

Looking for information on the Frank W. Phillips & Hugh Smith Families. Hugh Smith was born around 1818 in Ireland, immigrated here in 1849 and was naturalized in 1854. I have two different names for wives Mary Brandon that I got from Ancestry.com and Julia Mullen which I got from this website. So not sure now if I have the right Hugh Smith. I have for Hugh's children as Thomas, Matthew, Anna, Mary, Catherine, Maggie. Catherine is my G.Grandmother who married Frank W. Phillips (who I will get to in a moment).

I am seeking additional information on Heinrich Schneider (born 1787), father of Teckla Lucht. In particular I am looking for his wife's name, date of marriage, where she died, section of Germany he emigrated from, immigration date, vessel, etc. I am also interested in learning if he had other children and if they resided in Madison or Jefferson County.

G. A. Roberts Writings

I recently found a website citing a source of G.A. Roberts writings of a letter speaking of his migration from Maryland into Indiana with two other families of which I'm a direct descendant. The families mentioned in these writings are of Thomas Leatherbury and Samuel Taylor Blodgett. If anyone may have these writings or know where I can find them please let me know. I am willing to share any information concerning any families I'm researching with other researchers.

I have evidence of burials of more of this Paul family in this old graveyard located on the old Paul farm on Rykers Ridge. In 1981 the farm was owned by Kenneth Armand. They are:

John Paul (aka "John Paul of Peter") 18 July 1783-30 Aug 1870 (Madison
Courier, edition of 30 Aug 1870.) No stone
Sally Grover Paul, wf of John of Peter; b c1790-9 Mar 1878 (Obit Madison
Courier, 11 Mar 1876) No stone
Eunice Paul, dau of John and Sally; 3 Jan 1829-8 Aug 1882 (Death Record
Book for Feb 1882 to Dec 1894; there is also an obit in the
Madison Courier) No stone
The burials here of two sons of John and Sally, William H, and Nicholas D.
G. were mentioned in Jefferson County, Indiana Cemeteries by John Paul Chap
DAR.
