Joel Butler was born in MA in 1752, and served in the American Revolution as a Private in Col. Joseph's Regiment in 1777 in the Vermont Militia. It seems that his brother James also served. Joel is listed by the D.A.R. as #142333, and his brother James is listed but there is no number in this source, the Vermont Militia Rolls which is cited in the * Roster of Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution buried in Indiana.
Joel was one of the first in Jennings county, IN and is listed as the first school teacher, and also a Baptist minister. In *this source, he is listed in being buried in the 'Old cemetery near Scipio, Jennings County'.
As he is my GGGGG Grandfather, and we are planning a visit to Indiana in the near future (Sept. 2009), I would like to visit his grave. Is there anyone who can narrow down this location for me? I think that it may also be called the Old Geneva Cemetery.
I am descended via his son Ora/Asa Butler, and his son, Daniel Norcross Butler, then double related as two of Daniel's daughters, Sarah "Sallie" Butler and "Susan" Hannah Butler became my GG Grandmothers..one via my mother's father and the other via my mother's mother!
Thank you for any help you can provid
