Jefferson and Switzerland County: Storie Family

The Storie family in the Indian-Kentuck Region appears to stem from Thomas and Margaret Storie of Scotland. In May 1832, Margaret was appointed administrator of Thomas deceased. (Switzerland Co. Probate Book A-218) Margaret lived ca. 1758/61-6 Dec. 1841 or 44 and is buried in Caledonia Cem. There is no tombstone for Thomas.

Jefferson and Switzerland County: John Shaw Family

John Shaw married Elizabeth Spear in Scotland on 24 May 1797, according to the History of Switzerland County, originally printed in 1885. The family came to America in 1816. According to the county history, Shaw was a weaver, as were many of the other Scottish immigrants to the Caledonia settlement of Switzerland and Jefferson Counties.

Jefferson County: Bartholomew/Bartlett Edwards Family

Bartholomew Edwards’ family apparently is one of a number that originated in Maryland, migrated through the Bedford County, Va., area in the late 1700s, and settled in northeastern Stokes County, N.C., before migrating to Jefferson County, Ind. Edwards was listed in the 1850 Milton Township census as age 61, born in Virginia. Hence was born about 1789. It is not known who was the mother of the nine children mentioned in his will. However, it was clearly not Elizabeth, age 50, his apparent wife in his household that year. She was Elizabeth Roberts, who he married on 24 Nov.
